The great thing is that you don't have to be a pirate fan to want it. You can also use it on Spanish or French men.

Once these come out, I'll have to get a few, cut them up, and turn them into fencing foils, sabres, and epees. This Rapier is a really good idea of yours, Will.

Badger sent me one of the new Pirates sets, so I armed the Pirate Captain. Yes, I know the Derringer is not appropriate to the period, but I had a lot of fun putting it in his hook!

The rapier looks great in a pirate setting. The derringer also looks very good, I like how the captain is holding it in his hook. Can I have a pirate set, too, badger? ;-)

After seeing those pictures I'd love to see it in Trans Neon Green in the hands of some of my space pirates. [ADMIN - Done! I'll send it along with the Ammo Chain I promised you. See, guys, when you attend the LEGO shows, you get cool stuff! ;) ---Will]

Would a rapier be able to penetrate bullet-proof vests? Or would it bend or snap first? Will, it sounds like people are saying that the grip is too big and it is hard to get a minifig to hold it.
EDIT: Tarren beat me to it.

THe handle may seem a bit larger than I usually use, but I'm holding production samples in my hand right now, and they snap into the hand very easily. I even resized the hand guard to allow the handle to rotate around the minifig's hand when gripped.

To be honest I haven't had any trouble getting the rapier to fit into a fig's hand, it never seemed to be an issue to me.

This is another weapon that I am highly anticipating the arrival of. The Rapier has always been a favourite of mine in terms of bladed weapons, and this is the first design I have seen of one that would fit a Lego minifig hand. And I am surely impressed! The balance looks excellent from what I can see in the photos, and the length perfect for the size of the minfig (for as we know, minifigs are not perfectly scaled in themselves). The pommel is something of a dilemma from what I have read. If you think of the Lego cutlass, or even the normal Lego short-sword, they too have the rounded pommel, however it is smaller, allowing a minifig to grip it as well as the handle. While this is a nice play feature, it is not really that accurate. In this case, I think Will has made the correct choice by having the pommel larger to incorporate a nice level of detail and accuracy at this scale. Anyway, since when does anyone hold a rapier by the pommel? :D I think this whole thing was covered earlier in the thread, so I'll just say that to me it looks fine how it is. Now moving on. The cross-guard looks nice to me, much like a normal rapier, and does not extend to far out to detract from the aesthetics of the piece. The hilt itself is a good length; any longer and it would look weird. Yes I must say that Will has done a fantastic job on scaling the whole thing to a minifig. There is one thing though that I cannot tell from the picture, and it is bugging me. It appears that the actual blade is round? Or is that just me? Could somebody perhaps confirm for me whether this has a round blade or an edged blade, because I really can't tell. If it is rounded, then I would suggest you consider making it edged, but I am guessing that it is already edged and it is just the angle of the picture that is confusing me. In terms of bladed minifig weapons I don't think anyone else has ever tried the Rapier, or not that I've seen anyway. I take it that it must be quite hard to get the scaling and "balance" just right, and to me Will has done this superbly. I cannot find any faults from what I can see in the pictures, so it must be good! I can't wait for them to become available so I can get a better look. Very nicely done, a thumbs up from me. :)
