Yeah it's nice, I had it like this in my mind also. I like the cannon you have on you're Flickr. Soon I will post my own creation of a cannon. But I like the sailor you've made.

The only G.I. Joe character to be regularly shown wearing a life jacket was Cutter. But Cutter did not carry a Thompson, nor did he wear any kind of helmet (he wore a baseball cap). He also had a mustache, as I recall.
Definitely doesn't look like a G.I. Joe. It is, however, a very nice representation of a WWII sailor. Well done, Keith.

This is wonderful GENIUS! You just had to get those airstrike cordinates wrong didn't you, now were dead and its all your fault! Or did they poison that hotdog......

cool he looks right on spott those sailers with the helmets used to arm anti-air guns on cruiser's destroyers etc etc anyway this woud be a great add on to a navy schip are you planning to make a captain i will be looking forward to it it woud be a great add on to this one!
