So, you've got a squad of troops armed with BrickArms and ready for battle? Take a photo, and post it here!
'Vignette' is really just a fancy word for 'scene', but Lego nuts use the term to describe a MOC (My Original Creation) built on a small base. It is also known as a 'Vig'.
How large should it be? Well, most Lego fans consider an 8x8-stud vignette to be the standard size. However, other sizes are perfectly accetpable. Over on Lugnet.com, a semi-official naming convention has been established:
(The following is shamelessly lifted from the Lugnet Vignette FAQ)
Vignettes should: • Look like a “snapshot in time” (as if a photo was taken at a precise moment) • Be photographed well (hint: use the macro feature on your camera!) • Be creative and FUN! • Have BrickArms in them - After all, these are the BrickArms Forums, so include the Brickarms! ;)
Size (# studs) Description 3x3 (9) super micro 4x4 (16) micro 4x6 (24) small 6x6 (36) small standard 6x8 (48) small variant 8x8 (64) standard 6x10 (60) long 6x12 (72) long variant 8x10 (80) large 8x12 (96) large variant 8x16 (128) double vig 10x10 (100) large 10x12 (120) large variant 12x12 (144) super vig 16x16 (256) “Bignette” (Note: This term was apparently coined by Brickshelf user “k-hatch”.)
So, go for it! Don't worry if your photography isn't perfect. Nobody's is! :)
