On the 6th June, 1944, the largest land, sea and air operation known to man took place. Thousands of troops were shipped across the English Channel to storm Fortress Europe and gain a foothold in German Normandy. But hours before the landings, thousands of men dropped into occupied Europe under the cover of dark. British Glider troops and airborne to the East, to take the two steel bridges and to silence an gun emplacement. TO the West though, thousands of American soldiers were dropped all over the countryside, missing their drop zones by miles. Their objectives, to harass the enemy and disrupt communication was done despite units being made up of a few men, some of whom had lost their weapons and equipment in the drop. In this scene, we see one such unit of men, walking across a small bridge heading to their HQ, meeting up with a young private as they did so.  Okay, this is my first attempt at taking pictures of my new soldiers. I'm a bit biased towards the Airborne, so I wanted to make them as Airborne as possible given my limited capabilities. I thought that the backpacks would be a good idea for the para's, baring in mind the amount of food, equipment, clothing etc they were given on the drop. More pictures here at my BrickshelfPlease excuse the poorness of the shots, it was just a quick thing I threw together.
The Lee Enfield was the only bolt action rifle NOT to be replaced by a semi automatic rifle as its rate of fire was deemed high enough. Truely, us British do things the hard way.

Thanks, it's all BA bar the backpacks and the bridges. The bridge is part of a train set board that was given to me by a friend when i was heavily into Warhammer 40,000 (battle board.) The backpacks are from the LEGO Adventurer theme. This one to be exact

Thanks all. Yeah, the shadows were lucky actually, as a) it was actually a nice day in England and b) I thought the sun would have been in a bad angle by then, but I got it right, at 9am.

The scene is very nicely done. The movement and natural poses really suggest a group of GIs wandering looking for an enemy to engage. The way the troopers are carrying their M1s reminds me of scenes from Band of Brothers or Saving Private Ryan and reinforces the positives of Will making this weapon even if it doesn't sit naturally in a firing position. I think you would more often see this sort of scene with soldiers carrying weapons than actually firing them. (Sorry to go a little off-topic there.) Very nice Sir Norman.

Thanks! I was actually thinking that scene in Band of Brothers on D-Day itself, when at midnight you had those guys walking along the train track.

Very nice, Sir Norman Ray. Great use of natural scenery and the Garands. And like everyone else has said, nice bridge ;-)

Thank you, it was actually hard, that bridge is alightly broken and uneven, so i had a domino affect every time I tried to place the men.
